Government Transparency & Fiscal Responsibility

It’s no secret that Annapolis often operates in the shadows during the legislative session. Year after year, Democrat lawmakers reduce transparency, discourage public input, and expand government control over our daily lives. Whether it’s adding more laws or empowering unchecked bureaucracy, the result is the same: weakened accountability and a public left in the dark.

This is my seventh year in office, and it still bothers me every time someone says, “Why am I just now hearing about this?” My team works hard to spotlight concerning bills early—so the people have time to speak up.

Democrats push for selective transparency. I support full transparency at every level—from how your tax dollars are spent to ensuring election integrity. Marylanders deserve nothing less.

Fiscal Responsibility

If our staggering $6 billion deficit wasn’t already clear enough, Maryland needs serious fiscal discipline. Despite losing our AAA bond rating as a result, Democrat lawmakers chose to continue their reckless spending and increase our taxes.

Promoting Small Businesses

As a small business owner, I know the rewards of chasing a dream and the challenges of keeping it alive. Small businesses make up 99.5% of all businesses in Maryland, yet our state ranks 47th out of 50 for starting a business and only 27th in small business growth.

Small businesses are the backbone of our local economy. Maryland should be a place where they thrive, not fight to survive. Government should focus on removing barriers, not creating them. Let innovation, competition, and the free market drive growth, not subsidies and top-down interference.

Supporting the Private Sector

Did you know that more than 50% of Maryland’s workforce works in the public sector? This imbalance puts a heavy burden on taxpayers and stifles economic growth. I’m tired of the government picking winners and losers. It’s time to end crony capitalism and restore a level playing field where success is earned, not granted through political favoritism. Costly labor mandates, excessive regulations, and a business climate that discourages entrepreneurship have made Maryland increasingly unattractive to private employers.

Energy Crisis

Maryland’s reckless requirements for rapid electrification, premature fossil fuel bans, and unrealistic renewable energy mandates threaten to leave residents in the dark, both literally and financially. I regularly hear from constituents facing skyrocketing increases in their utility bills. This past session, I focused on addressing the policies driving our energy crisis and rising costs. Our consumption is far outpacing our production, and the majority party solutions have involved passing a half-baked energy plan that offers little relief or addresses our supply-demand issues. I also support restoring energy choice for consumers.  Tens of thousands of Maryland customers have lost access to their preferred energy plans, including lower cost, less volatile and cleaner energy plans because democrat lawmakers would rather we suffer together than give people a choice to decide what’s best for them.

Keeping Marylanders in Maryland

Retirees: We need to reduce or eliminate so many of the taxes affecting retirees in Maryland today. It is truly one of the saddest things I hear on a consistent basis from retirees, “We hate to leave all of our family and friends but we simply can’t afford to live here anymore”. I will continue to fight for our retirees in hopes they will stay in Maryland.

Housing Affordability: How many of you opened your property assessment this year and felt the shock? My office has been overwhelmed with calls from Marylanders who are struggling to keep up with rising property taxes, which is really an invisible tax. This unchecked increase in assessments disproportionately harms retirees, working families, and those living on fixed incomes. Democrats in Annapolis constantly talk about affordable housing, yet they’re blind to how their own policies are making housing increasingly unaffordable. From unchecked assessment hikes to burdensome regulations, they continue to push an agenda that drives up costs instead of promoting home ownership. Maryland is already one of the most expensive states to live in. Yet, instead of offering relief, democrats continue to burden those who don’t have the means to leave. It’s time to make Maryland More Affordable Again and bring fairness and predictability back to homeowners.
